Solving Fire Safety Challenges: A Case Study in Passive Fire Installation for an Apartment Block

In the realm of fire safety, a proactive approach is crucial to safeguarding lives and property.

Our recent project involved providing passive fire installation services for a new apartment block build.

We were tasked with identifying and implementing solutions to ensure optimal fire safety measures.

This case study highlights the challenges we encountered, the actions we took, and the successful outcomes achieved through effective communication, quick problem-solving, and strong supplier relationships.

Scope and Problem Identification

Our primary responsibility was to assess the passive fire requirements for the apartment block.

We engaged in meetings with the project manager and site managers to gain a thorough understanding of the project's specific needs.

One notable issue we identified during this process was a large bundle of Paircoils that had been incorrectly grouped together instead of being separated through the I.T. (integrity and thermal) walls.

This posed a potential risk and called for an immediate solution to ensure compliance with fire safety regulations.

Key Actions Taken

Open and Easy Communication:
Establishing transparent and efficient communication channels with the project stakeholders was our top priority. By making sure we were in contact with the project manager and site managers, we kept them informed about our progress and any potential challenges. This collaborative approach ensured that everyone was on the same page and that the project proceeded smoothly.

Quick Problem-Solving:
By identifying the issue with the improperly grouped Paircoils, we swiftly sought a solution to rectify the situation. Leveraging our extensive network and experience in passive fire installation, we reached out to our supplier for assistance. They provided us with the tested solution, Fyrebox, which addressed the problem effectively. We were able to get the necessary materials from our supplier and completed the supply and installation process, resolving the issue promptly.

Strong Supplier Relationships:
Our longstanding relationships with reliable suppliers played a vital role in the successful completion of the project. When faced with the challenge of sourcing a specific product not manufactured in New Zealand, we contacted the manufacturer directly. They guided us to their importer in New Zealand, enabling us to establish an account and directly import the required product. This efficient collaboration with our suppliers helped us overcome supply-related obstacles and maintain project timelines.
